BLASTIC – Less marine litter through mapping and monitoring

BLASTIC developed new methodology and approaches to map sources, impacts and pathways of marine litter. Mapping approaches were combined with monitoring methods to produce the ‘BLASTIC riverine plastic litter monitoring method’ guidelines.
 
Additionally, BLASTIC also produced a list that identifies and prioritises measures to reduce litter streams from land to sea. The list helps municipalities to create local marine litter action plans. The guidelines and the list are accompanied by a socioeconomic report that looks at the impact of marine litter.

Baltic Urban Lab - Brownfield areas evolved

Baltic Urban Lab created and tested new integrated planning and partnership models that help turn brownfield areas into smart and sustainable city districts. Brownfields are abandoned or underused areas that have previously been used for example by industry or military.
 
One of the new ways for planning is the public-private-people partnership (4P) approach. 4P improves the inclusion of various public sector actors, private actors, residents, NGOs and of civil-society actors in the planning processes through improved dialogue and common understanding of goals.

PAD - improved access to labour market

The main goal of the project was to find solutions to reduce social exclusion and stigma of youngsters and young adults with mental health problems, in order to increase their access to the labour market.
 
PAD contributed to the understanding of existing problems from the perspective of different stakeholders such as employers, companies and enterprises, target group members and different service providers.

DeDiWe - Curriculum to improve creation of eHealth services

The project DeDiWe created a 30 ECTS multi-professional curriculum “The Developer of Digital Health and Welfare Services”. The curriculum gives future professionals skills in developing improved eHealth services.
 
The study programme is based on the Learning by Developing model, where students, professionals and teachers learn together in working life. Competence level of the study programme is European Qualifications Framework (EQF) levels 5 and 6. Learning takes place mostly on an e-learning platform that is combined with cross-border cooperation.

FinEst Link - fixed connection from Helsinki to Tallinn

FinEst link investigated whether it’s realistic to build a fixed link (tunnel) over the Gulf of Finland between Helsinki and Tallin. Upon project completion, the following results were produced:

NutriTrade - Reduced nutrient load through cost-effective measures

NutriTrade reduced nutrient load to the Baltic Sea through cost-effective pilot measures. These included pilot projects, creating a crowdfunding platform for nutrient offset and policy analysis.

NUTRINFLOW - Sustainable and approachable nutrient reduction

NUTRINFLOW reduced nutrient losses from agriculture to immediate watersheds and into the Baltic Sea.  Reduction was achieved through pilot investments implemented in Finland, Sweden and Latvia, where various nutrient sources were targeted.

SIPPE - social activities for elderly people

Elderly people are vulnerable to loneliness, health problems, and depression. To support their well-being, project SIPPE developed a so-called well-being party method. Well-being parties aim at activating the elderly and to improve their overall well-being. Well-being parties are events hosted by elderly people themselves and focusing on topics such as nutrition, sleep and rest, participation in social life, nature, physical activities, and music. To enable these activities, the project developed a method to train elderly people as host/hostess of well-being parties.

Compared to local residents, foreigners encounter bigger challenges to enter the labour market. FEM project focused on offering support to Estonian women moving to Finland.

Live Baltic Campus - participatory methods for urban planning

For quite sometime, cities have taken steps to include all actors in their urban planning process. Planning according to this principle presents many advantages; those who operate in the area, know their needs best and usually have relevant ideas on how to fulfill them. But what are the best methods to involve them in the process? Live Baltic Campus tested many different ones whilst developing their five integrated urban plans in the university campus areas of Helsinki, Riga, Tartu, Turku, and Uppsala.

REGI Support for Estonian families living in Finland

Work-based migration from Estonia to Finland has been growing in the last decade. As a result family members might be separated by the distance and suffer because of that. Project REGI was implemented to support Estonian families affected by this issue.

BELT - start-ups in the Central Baltic region

The BELT project improved start-up culture within the Central Baltic region in various ways. For instance, four BootCamps were organised under the Smart City theme in Jurmala, Helsinki, Norrköping and Tampere. In total, 86 start-ups or teams participated in them, along with individual business ideas.
