E-TICKETING created interoperability between the electronic ticketing systems in Estonia and Finland

Project developed a joint mobile ticket system that crosses the borders of Finland and Estonia. With the new ticket system it’s possible to buy public transport tickets for all three cities: Helsinki, Tallinn and Tartu with one app, and there is no longer need to buy a plastic card or paper ticket when traveling from another country.

Travelers from Estonia to Helsinki can use the mobile application to buy a single public transport ticket.
Holders of the Helsinki Travel Card (Matkakortti) can buy and store Tallinn and Tartu day tickets on their travel card.
Passengers can view all trip details on the websites www.pilet.ee and www.hsl.fi.

The name of the application is Pilet.ee 2020. The application is available for both iOS and Android systems.
Even without the app, the HSL Matkakort holder has the option to buy public transport day tickets for Tallinn and Tartu on their card.

eMesai supported SME's entering the Sub-Saharan, Indian and UAE markets

The project supported SMEs' efforts to enter the Sub-Saharan, India and UAE markets to reach the main objective of increasing the Central Baltic SMEs' export to these regions/countries. This was done by 3 strong CB ICT clusters from Sweden, Estonia and Latvia through joint export competence building and jointly applying export support tools.

During the project 1 sale and 1 MoU was signed. In addition, more than 10 sales and potential sales after the end of the project were recorded.

The project supported altogether more than 200 SMEs’ export efforts.

As main activities of the project following were implemented:

2 joint export seminars (Tallinn & Riga) and 1 export webinar;
2 joint study trips on joint marketing (Tallinn & Riga)
2 joint webinars on: how to participate in World Bank tenders and how to participate in UN tenders in African countries/India
3 joint trade missions to regional events/world congresses (Transform Africa Summit and ITS World Congresses), 1 joint trade mission to the UAE and 3 webinars to prepare for these missions
Raising awareness seminars about digitalization benefits of the local stakeholders/potential clients at e-Governance conferences in Tallinn in 2019, 2020 and 2021 online, EEN Sweden online matchmaking event and at a webinar on how to do business in India digitally
Local market expert service in India and in the UAE for altogether 16 SMEs from 3 countries, updates of business profiles and solution descriptions for Estonian SMEs for fitting better for the target markets and participation in the Business Support to EU-India Policy dialogue project events for specific Swedish SMEs with personal invitations.

The significant part of the project implementation fell to the Covid pandemic, and the project had to adopt with new circumstances. The partnership was successful in that.

Competitive Economy Through Cross Border Export Support to Sub-Saharan Africa, India and UAE Countries

The project targeted the creation of cross-border student companies (business simulations).

The project defined the student company as “a group of pupils from at least 2 project countries who go through a product/service development and business simulation process during 2–3 half-years (60–90 hours) using start-up methods”.

Altogether, 41 joint student companies with different product or service were established, of which 17 during the 1st round of activities and 24 during the 2nd round. The principles in creating a team were set as at least 3 members and at least 2 different country representatives in a team to guarantee its international aspect.

The project succeeded to involve 221 pupils (age 14-19) into project activities.

All these pupils did not participate in activities from start till the end, as some cancelled their participation meanwhile because of different reasons - change of school, lack of time and other personal reasons. Still, all of them got an overview and experience of the joint work, feeling of belonging, teamwork and cooperation, design thinking exercises and other Project activities that enhanced their knowledge on entrepreneurship, competitiveness, regional cooperation and the Program.

The thematic area where student companies were created was determined as “digital products”, i.e., learning and gaming solutions; 3D, visual programming; robotics; low- and high-tech art and craft; mobile apps; hardware programming and IoT; communication solutions/platforms; digitally supported services

In addition to participating pupils, more than 40 teachers and mentors from 4 countries were trained to mentor the cross-border student companies.

Based on feedback of the participants, additionally to broader scale influences, already now many friendships have been created and kept, new ideas further developed, entrepreneurship has been chosen as a way of life and future profession.

ITSVET - ICT security skills on the vocational education level

The ICT Security Specialist curriculum was developed in English and localized for Estonia, Latvia, and Finland. 8 VET schools from Estonia, 5 schools from Latvia and 12 schools from Finland have been involved in project activities and teacher training and are preparing themselves to use the developed curricula.
Most important outcomes:

Competence-based occupational standard for ICT Security Specialist EQF level 5.
ICT Security Specialist curriculum for level EQF 5 in English, Estonian, Finnish and Latvian. Curriculum was piloted in all participating countries (EST, FIN, LAT) before issuing the final version.
Learning Resources, especially practical Lab Manuals focusing on 26 most relevant ICT security topics for EQF 5 level specialists. These learning resources can be used for any VET or ICT training provider to use as is or to modify and use partially.
Skilled and competent VET institution teachers: Teachers from 25 VET institutions were trained. To support teachers in introducing and teaching the curriculum Teacher handbooks were developed and launched in the form of a web source.

The project communicated directly with all main target groups: employers/SME's were addressed to define the skills gaps, VET students as main endusers were involved in direct training while piloting the curriculum and learning materials and VET teachers were engaged in teacher training and teachers' manual development. The electronic channels were for informing about international dissemination events, SME feedback survey, and teacher training.

The specific technical issues are subject to quick changes, but, as the curriculum consists of independent lab manuals, it should be easy to make changes in these.
Project has reported already clear interest from VET schools from the Netherlands, UK, and Spain, to introduce the concept also to their countries and to widen the scope of ICT security curricula to non-ICT students also.

SmartLog - Prototype created that can improve the supply chain in the transport and logistics industry

The main aim with the project “Smart Logistics and Freight Villages Initiative” (SmartLog) was to develop new Internet-of-things (IoT) solution based on block-chain technology, that would help logistics and transportation companies to improve and make their supply chains more efficient.
Companies from Sweden, Finland, Estonia and Latvia were involved in the project along two TEN-T corridors: North Sea – Baltic and Scandinavian – Mediterranean corridor.
In order to test the new IT solution, in total 648 companies were contacted, and thorough communication with detailed analyses was conducted in 151 companies. The aim was initially to gain input to the companies software development, understand and map their processes, get an understanding on the maturity level of hard- and software and their susceptibility to the new technology.
Detailed process maps and simulations were done in 48 companies.
Finally, the developed software was connected to the IT systems of 12 companies and real time data gathered and analysed.
Within the time of the project, not enough companies started to use the new technology in such extent that measuring of the real impact and decreased transportation time on clearly defined routes was allowed. An important reason is that small and medium sized companies lack trust in new technologies due to security and privacy concerns, and they have low maturity level of digitalization.
However, the modelling shows that the improved cargo handling system would decrease transportation time and can be used and measured in every route or corridor. The time reductions along the two targeted corridors, based on process simulations, made up 6.3% and based on data analyses 3.8%. Larger time reductions can be expected when employees get more accustomed to using the benefits of the new software solution.
The new product is now developed and tested, and with relatively little effort companies if interested can take it into use. It can be accessed via:

The focus in the next step needs to be on large companies as their processes are better mapped and digitalized, their investment and know-how capability is better and IT systems more advanced.

Interactive information system for small harbours created by SmartPorts

Thanks to the project, 16 small guest harbours were improved with better infrastructure and safety in four countries (most ports in Estonia and Latvia).
Ports invested in new safety and environment protection equipment to make ports more secure, sustainable, comfortable and to provide better services in harbours. Ports have purchased navigation marks, buoys, meteorological stations, directional lights, and improved port facilities. E.g. Kõiguste installed self-service kiosk, navigation marks, line marks and gate system, and Purtse developed new webpage, purchased rowing boat, surveillance and port gate opening system.

The SmartPorts project created an interactive information system for small harbours.
Modern ICT solution (www.marinamia.eu) was launched to integrate region's small port network and contribute to tourism development.

The app, HelloPort, includes Port & Buoy Navigation, Marina info and payment.

Common marketing strategies and plans were developed for the participating ports and regions. During the project, partners held training sessions and meetings to discuss methods how to increase visitors’ number and provide sailors even better service quality. The most useful communication for project partners was attending at the maritime fairs in Germany, Sweden, and Finland. Thanks to the fairs, the partners could introduce and promote their ports to visitors. It provided great opportunity to answer to sailors’ questions and concerns. Also, a lot of sailors were interested in the best sailing routes in Baltic Sea. The number of foreign visitors by the sea is increasing. The visitors are also expected to stay longer in the improved ports.

Notable parts of the result are the improved safe navigation and docking services in the small ports as well as improved environmental protection and pollution prevention services.
The cooperation was very effective and successful between Estonia and Latvia. With Finland and Sweden, the communication was weaker, but the project was well implemented.

The SAFHY project compared and aligned two vocational education and training curricula from the hygiene point of view.

In the field of cleaning services, two modules of the curriculum for Cleaning supervisor in Estonia were aligned with the modules of study programme Specialization in Cleaning Service /Site Facilities Operative in Finland.

To align the hygiene aspects in nursing and health care curricula in both countries, selected modules concerning care procedures in the curriculum of Care worker (EST) were aligned with the modules in curriculum for Practical nurse (FIN).

Project developed significant amount of digital learning materials for cleaning and healthcare specialities on the subject of hygiene. Learning materials can be used in Finnish, Estonian, English and Russian in order to support the learning of different groups of students. Digital learning materials include 21 topics for the health care sector, 27 topics for the cleaning sector, 5900 photos, 120 videos in 4 languages. The material contains text, learning tests, videos, photos and a professional vocabulary. Digital learning material was developed for VET institutions and work places.

Safety and Hygiene - safer environment

DeDiWe - Curriculum to improve creation of eHealth services

The project DeDiWe created a 30 ECTS multi-professional curriculum “The Developer of Digital Health and Welfare Services”. The curriculum gives future professionals skills in developing improved eHealth services.

The study programme is based on the Learning by Developing model, where students, professionals and teachers learn together in working life. Competence level of the study programme is European Qualifications Framework (EQF) levels 5 and 6. Learning takes place mostly on an e-learning platform that is combined with cross-border cooperation.

The curriculum is available on the project website (http://rdi.arcada.fi/dediwe/en/dediwe-course/) so that other higher education institutions, training centres and schools can build study units upon it. The partner schools continue to offer the study units of the DeDiWe curriculum to their students. The Developer of Digital Health and Welfare Services

EDU-SMEs project - an aligned VET programme in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship

A team of teachers from four partner universities of applied sciences in Estonia, Finland and Latvia designed and implemented an e-learning course in five modules, by creating new co-operation platforms for SMEs and higher education institutions across national borders.

A real-life cross-border assignment (CBA) provides a genuine learning environment, where students and SMEs work closely together across national borders. The CBAs directly link SMEs with faculty and students abroad; i.e. with their target markets.

Around 180 students participated in the project during its implementation, and cross-border assignments provided a strong integration of classroom learning and real-life practice. The concrete cooperation with an SME in another country trained the students and gave new competencies in the field of internationalisation of small and medium-sized companies.

A large number of companies – more than 300 representing a variety of sectors - were reached during project implementation. They benefitted from direct support in their internationalisation processes.
The course "International Business Strategies of SMEs" sums up to 10 ECTS. It is web based, free of use.

The EDU-SMEs Handbook provides guidance to teachers in designing materials for the e-course and assisting in implementing the real-life cross-border assignments (CBAs).

Good cooperation between the partners and the fact that the project was based on a real need have helped the project to reach all expected results and to ensure sustainability of the results. Other forms of cooperation have emerged as an additional result of the project. Among these are e.g. guest lecturing about growing market areas, such as Asia and Africa.
