ITSVET - ICT security skills on the vocational education level

The ICT Security Specialist curriculum was developed in English and localized for Estonia, Latvia, and Finland. 8 VET schools from Estonia, 5 schools from Latvia and 12 schools from Finland have been involved in project activities and teacher training and are preparing themselves to use the developed curricula.
Most important outcomes:

Competence-based occupational standard for ICT Security Specialist EQF level 5.
ICT Security Specialist curriculum for level EQF 5 in English, Estonian, Finnish and Latvian. Curriculum was piloted in all participating countries (EST, FIN, LAT) before issuing the final version.
Learning Resources, especially practical Lab Manuals focusing on 26 most relevant ICT security topics for EQF 5 level specialists. These learning resources can be used for any VET or ICT training provider to use as is or to modify and use partially.
Skilled and competent VET institution teachers: Teachers from 25 VET institutions were trained. To support teachers in introducing and teaching the curriculum Teacher handbooks were developed and launched in the form of a web source.

The project communicated directly with all main target groups: employers/SME's were addressed to define the skills gaps, VET students as main endusers were involved in direct training while piloting the curriculum and learning materials and VET teachers were engaged in teacher training and teachers' manual development. The electronic channels were for informing about international dissemination events, SME feedback survey, and teacher training.

The specific technical issues are subject to quick changes, but, as the curriculum consists of independent lab manuals, it should be easy to make changes in these.
Project has reported already clear interest from VET schools from the Netherlands, UK, and Spain, to introduce the concept also to their countries and to widen the scope of ICT security curricula to non-ICT students also.

ACTIVE AGE improved an equal access of long-term unemployed seniors to labour market in rural areas

The main result of the project - social well-being of local people aged 55+ has been improved through higher employment and incomes. Participants of the project gained practical skills, knowledge, self-esteem, self-confidence. Motivation of seniors have improved and they have better access to local labor market now, some seniors have already found a new job.

More than 400 members of the target group participated in the project activities and got both practical skills and encouragement. The interest towards project activities was big in the target group and the planned target value of 100 participants was exceeded a lot. Practical and theoretical trainings such as handicraft, English and computer courses were appreciated by all participants. Especially for seniors who have been unemployed for a long period of time and needed more personal approach and support because of low self-confidence, support of the group and mentoring to improve the participants’ self-esteem were important. Joint study tours and visits were organised to strengthen the cross-boarder network and to share good ideas and experiences.

Through the networking and people-to-people communication seniors received new ideas which can be used in making better choices and improving their social well-being in the future. Participants plan to use their new skills to find a job, earn additional income or create new activities as NGO or self-employed person. Other organisations in CB area can use the results of the survey to develop integration measures for similar target groups.

Raising competitiveness of freelance artists and independent companies - Theatre Expanded

During the project the two project partners, Estonian theatre organisation Foundation Vaba Lava and New Theatre Institute of Latvia, collaborated with an aim to raise the entrepreneurial spirit of theatre professionals and to explore and introduce new models of arts and business collaboration.

Many trainings were organised in Estonia and Latvia both for local and joint audiences with theatre professionals. More than 600 people in Estonia and in Latvia attended different kind of seminars, training courses, shadowing processes, working periods with mentors and the final conference.

The new concept of artistic interventions was studied and practically implemented in both countries with the help of experts from Finland and Germany. During a 9-month period 5 (EST) and 11 (LV) new process leaders in artistic interventions were trained. In Estonia one new company was created by theatre professionals with an aims to use innovative ideas in theatre production and to promote young theatre professionals in home country and abroad.
Two publications were created for theatre producers and professionals. The project ended with the two-day international conference in Tallinn targeted researching future of performing arts.

The project wanted to offer persons in risk of lifelong exclusion to take part in gardening activities. Through practical work in the garden together with individual counselling, you can get new competences and new possibilities on the labour market and in the society in general. Cultivation and horticulture have proven to be a good method as you see clear results of your own work, and the work gives you a sense of belonging and connection.

Within the project, the two partner organisations developed a method for integration and well-being of people far from the labour market and threatened by lifelong exclusion. The method includes horticultural therapy, skills development, individual support, and practical work in the garden.
It is based on the idea that everyone can work with the right support. The method must be adapted to the specific needs of each individual. For some it is important to work in a group, for some it is important to work individually. For some, it is important to have clear instructions while others want to do as they please. “One size does not fit all”.

The project working methods have been shared with both trainees and professional social workers in the regions.

The goal was to have 150 participants in the project taking part in the activities for at least ten hours (75 in Valdemarsvik and 75 in Åland), The result was only 84. There were challenges in reaching the target groups and getting the individuals to come, as everything was voluntary. The project team tried to visit various organisations and authorities, and information was spread in radio, newspapers and social media. This outreaching model took longer time but worked well, and the target group was also broadened to marginalized older people.

Many participants participated much more than ten hours. Many of the participants were still involved in the activities after the project end. For most people, the combination of work and support and interaction with other people have been of great importance. Many participants have, after some time in the project, been diverted to other organisations and to labour market initiatives and internships.

The investment in greenhouses was important for the project. Thanks to the greenhouses, the cultivation season was longer. The greenhouses also served as the project's face outwards.

The activities were integrated into the regular operations in the partner organisations, which means that people under risk of social exclusion can continue to take part in what the project offered. This low-threshold activity has proven to be very important for people who otherwise find it difficult to find employment. Gardens of Possibilities are maintained and available to the public and to organisations and groups wanting to work with green care. People can stay in the gardens with their own supervisors or ask for help of the partner organisations.

Target group examples:

Addict: The project offers work, social interaction and new friendships. In addition, the project provides certificates of work experience that are good to have when applying for work.
Mentally ill: Through the project, the person is given routines and important tasks that contribute to increased self-confidence and increased well-being, which in turn leads to readiness to participate in labour market projects that can eventually lead to a job.
Immigrant: participating in course in Swedish, but with no practical work experience in the new home country. The person is interested in cultivation – and the work in the garden is also a way to the Swedish language. Through practical language training and work experience, the person approaches the labour market.

The cross-border cooperation within the project worked fine on equal terms and with equal contribution to planning and implementation.

Gardens of Possibilities – inclusion through urban gardening

PRIME - training programmes for young migrants

To promote the social and economic integration of young migrants aged 18-30 years who have limited knowledge of the host country’s language & culture and lack social capital & support, the project PRIME developed and piloted a training programme targeting young migrants with a refugee background in Linköping, Sweden and foreign students in Riga, Latvia.

The programme consisted of a toolkit of options, including, language and cultural awareness training as well as vocational training, work placements, job brokerage and community-based workplace mentoring. To measure the programme’s success, the project collected feedbacks from the young migrant participating in the training programme’s pilot & their mentors. The feedbacks showed that participants were satisfied with the training and with the knowledge and skills they acquired.

Within the programme framework, 100 young migrants participated in the training programme overreaching the initial target of 50. To support the programme, 40 mentors were also trained overreaching the initial target (15) in this instance too.

Promoting Integration for Young Migrants

CROSS - minority integration in Finland and Estonia

Project CROSS focused on the integration of the Russian community in the Ida-Virumaa region in Estonia and that of the Estonian community in the Helsinki region in Finland.

The project targeted unemployed members of these communities.

The project implemeted a mentor as well as a diversity management programme. Both programmes aimed at the integration of the target communities. Altogether the project involved 86 people including mentors and mentees.

Cross-border cooperation on mentoring and peer support for immigrants

PAD - improved access to labour market

The main goal of the project was to find solutions to reduce social exclusion and stigma of youngsters and young adults with mental health problems, in order to increase their access to the labour market.

PAD contributed to the understanding of existing problems from the perspective of different stakeholders such as employers, companies and enterprises, target group members and different service providers.

In total, 8 members of the project target group managed to find work during the project time. In addition, project partners in both countries experienced a growing interest on behalf of companies and enterprises towards employment of people with mental health issues. Finnish examples of peer activism and the entrepreneurial opportunities inspired many Estonian target group members who participated in our project. This helped them to feel more empowered.

Approximately 100 persons participated in the project activities and thereby benefitted from the project. 10 student theses were written about the subject which help understand and solve such problems in the future.

YOUTH-SPORT-VOL - a platform to find volunteering work

To improve possibilities for young people to enter the labour market, YOUTH-SPORT-VOL implemented a sport volunteering model. The model allows young adults to gain working knowledge in the framework of volunteering, thus improving their possiblities to find work. To make volunteering easily discoverable, the project created a web service that allows browsing of events and registering as a volunteer in them. A permanent secreatariat for sport volunteering was established at the Tallinn University as well. The project engaged with 985 unemployed young adults, nearly twice as many as planned.
